Transport Secretary sets out vision for high speed rail network |

Public consultation on a £30 billion high speed rail network will begin in the autumn, the Transport Secretary said today as he unveiled plans for the fastest railway in Europe.
Journey times between London and Birmingham would be cut to between 30 and 50 minutes, depending on which of two London destinations are used. Eventually, Lord Adonis envisages London to Edinburgh journey times of just 2 hours 40 minutes. All of Leeds, Sheffield and Manchester would be within 75 minutes of London.
