The Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council is the main funding body for academic research into transport in general and ITS specifically. The ITS KTN works closely with the Transport sector team within EPSRC to help shape the reseah agenda and communicate to the KTN community the funding opportunities as they arise.

Under the cross council programme, Nanoscience through Engineering to Application EPSRC is planning to announce a third call for Nanotechnology Grand Challenges in summer 2009. This call will be for large-scale, integrated, interdisciplinary projects aimed at taking nanotechnology through towards application in an area of potential societal and/or economic importance. The focus for this Grand Challenge has not been set and the EPSRC is seeking input from the research and user community about what areas it should focus on. They would like to receive input from a wide range of researchers and users. The information we receive through this consultation will be used to inform the scoping of the call.
