In response to recommendations from the Automotive Innovation & Growth Team (AIGT), a centre of excellence called innovITS has been established in the UK.

The ITS Centre of Excellence will seek out inventive telematics technology to integrate on a realistic scale and validate that it delivers value to road users and transport operators. As a result, it will act as a catalyst for subsequent deployment and commercial exploitation.

Opportunities for involvement

There are various opportunities for organisations involved in ITS in the UK to participate in the ITS Centre of Excellence.
The Centre works with a wide range of organisations that include automotive and telecommunications companies, road operators and system integrators, and from trade bodies and technology organisations.

The levels of participation envisaged are as follows:

	Executive governance As a company limited by guarantee, the Centre is owned by its member organisations who provide representatives to act as Board Directors.
	Collaborative partners The Centre is establishing a range of projects and programmes that will require the involvement of collaborative partners. These will include demonstration projects, research and development and EU-funded programmes. Initially, partners will contribute access to their existing assets and will migrate existing projects to fit within the coordinating UK suite.

Expressions of interest from organisations that wish to engage and participate in the Centre are sought. This is a great opportunity for involvement in helping to shape the UK's future in an exciting and high growth technology sector with global opportunities.
